Starting August 10, lanes on the Interstate 55 bridges over the Des Plaines River will be closed again. The Illinois Department of Transportation issued a news release late Friday afternoon stating the bridges will undergo routine inspections lasting two to three weeks.
The inspections will occur Mondays through Thursdays during daytime hours, IDOT said. The southbound bridge will be inspected first, with lane closures scheduled between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Inspections on the northbound bridge will follow, with lane closures scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
IDOT urged motorists to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zone, obey speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment. Message signs will be posted to advice motorists of travel times through the work zone.
