Pre-Schools and Day Care Centers

The Channahon area offers many choices for families looking for pre-school or day care. The Channahon Park District operates a very popular pre-school program for three and four-year olds at the Arrowhead Community Center. In addition, Lighthouse Kids, Inc. at 24901 S. Sage is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Families may also choose from a wide variety of pre-school and day care services available in nearby Joliet.

Elementary Schools

Most public school students who live in Channahon attend Channahon District 17.  Students who live in McClintock Acres, Leland Hills, McDonald Manor, White Oaks, and Park Place subdivisions attend Troy Community Consolidated District 30-C. Students living in subdivisions within Grundy County attend Minooka Community Consolidated School District 201. Secondary Schools

Most high school students in Channahon attend Minooka Community High School District 111, with the exception of those living in Leland Hills and Quarry subdivisions. Post-Secondary Educational Opportunities

Channahon residents interested in pursuing a college degree can choose from several nearby colleges and universities.  Joliet Junior College (JUCO), located at 1215 Houbolt Road on Joliet's southwest side, offers a wide variety of two-year programs. JUCO is America's oldest public community college, founded in 1901. Fall 1999 enrollment figures included 267 students who were residents of Channahon.  The University of St. Francis, also located in Joliet, offers courses leading to a bachelors degree in a variety of majors, as well as graduate degrees in health services administration and long-term care administration.  Lewis University in Romeoville and Governors State University in University Park are both within easy driving distance of Channahon and offer a large selection of programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Within the Chicago metropolitan area, over 50 public and private colleges and universities offer coursework in a wide variety of disciplines. Many schools now hold classes at satellite facilities throughout the region and on-line through the Internet. As a result, area residents have greater access to higher education programs from schools across the country.
