The Community Development Department consists of the Building, Planning and Zoning, Code Enforcement and Economic Development Divisions. The Department enforces the zoning regulations; reviews development site plans, plats, and building plans; issues building permits; performs inspections; issues certificates of occupancy; enforces the Village Code; implements the Village Comprehensive Land Use Plan; collects impact fees for distribution to the appropriate taxing bodies; and undertakes economic development activities.
One of the Department’s main areas of focus is to review and approve new residential, commercial, and industrial developments prior to going before the Planning and Zoning Commission and Village Board of Trustees for approval.

Michael C. Petrick, Director of Community Development & Information Systems
Mike Petrick is responsible for the management of the Community Development Department, as well as the oversight of Information Technology and Communications. Petrick earned a bachelor’s degree [B.S. Geography] from Eastern Illinois University in 2002, and a Masters of Business Administration from Lewis University in 2012. Prior to this role, he served the Village of Channahon in the position of GIS/Information Systems Coordinator, and as a Public Works Street Laborer.
