Street Trees

One of the primary tasks of the Tree Board is to advise the Village on the care of street trees.  Trees located in the parkways (between the sidewalk and curb) are maintained by the Village.  Due to the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer in Channahon (see below), the Tree Board prepared and the Village Board approved a program to replace Ash Trees in the parkways. Arbor Day

Like many communities, the Tree Board’s main promotional event is Arbor Day held on the last Friday in April.  For the past 15 years, the Tree Board has held educational events for our children and planted a tree.

Memorial Tree Walk

The Channahon Memorial Tree Walk was opened in 2011 with the planting of five trees.  Today, there are 16 trees planted in memory of area loved ones or friends.  The Walk provides the opportunity for residents to plant a tree in memory of a someone special.  In addition to the tree, a plaque identifies the tree and includes a dedication inscription.  For more information please click this link: Memorial Tree Walk Flyer and Order Form.

Emerald Ash Borer

On October 3, 2011, the Illinois Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in Channahon.  This invasive beetle is native to Asia and was first discovered in southeastern Michigan near Detroit in the summer of 2002.   To manage the EAB problem, the Village Board recently approved a plan written by the Village Tree Board.  To learn more please click this link: Channahon Emerald Ash Borer Plan

Below is a map displaying the results of all Ash Trees Collected by the Village of Channahon Tree Survey in the fall of 2012. We recommend opening it in a larger map, so you may more-easily zoom-in and click on trees for information.
