If you have information
regarding Burglaries to Motor Vehicles or any other criminal
activity call your local police department, your name can be
kept confidential. In Channahon, call Detective Jeff Wold
at 815-467-8362.
The Channahon Police are
warning residents to be aware of a scam. Recently, several
Channahon Area residents have reported receiving bogus
checks in the mail, claiming the resident has won some type
of lottery or prize. Included with the check is a letter
explaining that the check is only a small part the winnings
and a request to send some type of fee or tax, by Western
Union or Money Gram, to claim the remaining prize amount.
The offender(s) is hoping
that you will deposit the check into your bank
account and use Western Union or Money Gram to pay the fee
before the bank discovers the check is a fraud.
In past cases, the
offender(s) have been located in a foreign country and
near impossible to locate. The Channahon Police Department
is working with the Will County State's Attorney's Office
and several Federal Law Enforcement Agencies to determine
the identity of the offenders.
If you receive any suspicious checks in the mail, please discuss the situation with a member of law enforcement or a banking professional prior to depositing the check or wiring any funds. If you have a fraudulent check, report it to your local police department. Detective Jeff Wold can be reached at 815-467-8362 if you have any questions.
