Click here for information about the refuse and recycling collection contract with Environmental Recycling & Disposal that starts on May 1, 2020.
The Village of Channahon has contracted with Waste Management through April 30, 2020 for refuse and recycling pickup services. For the most current refuse rates and services, please see our Application for Refuse Service (PDF).
Yard waste begins April 1st. Yard waste entails grass or shrubbery cuttings, leaves, tree limbs, and aquatic weeds.
Yard waste and leaves must be placed in kraft paper bags and have a pre-paid sticker attached to the bag prior to collection. Stickers cost $1.75 each and are available at the Village Hall, Casey’s and CIBC Bank. Please do not put yard waste in your refuse or recycle tote. For additional information please contact the Village Hall.
Paper recycling at the Channahon Municipal Center. Help Channahon stay green!
Please feel free to drop off these items in the green and yellow paper recycling bin located in the south parking lot of the Municipal Center:
- Hardback books with the cover removed
- Office paper
- Paperback books
- Spiral notebooks (spiral can stay on)
Note: No phone books or cardboard is allowed.
Fall leaves are scheduled for pick up by Waste Management from October 1st to November 30th. Leaves must be in biodegradable bags and placed out for collection with your regular garbage; no prepaid sticker is required on the regular pick up day during this time. Note: Plastic bags are not acceptable at any time.
Unlike most communities, Channahon does allow outdoor burning of leaves and small limbs within the corporate limits.
If you choose to burn your leaves, please do so safely. Leaves can only be burned on private property and burning is not permitted in the right-of-way or on any street. Keep your fire at a manageable size, do not leave fires unattended and avoid burning on windy days.
If a fire gets out of control, call 911 immediately. As a reminder, the burning of grass clippings, large branches or garbage is prohibited.
