Meeting Highlights for Monday, March 16, 2026


CHANNAHON, Ill. - The Village Board of Trustees and Committee of the Whole met on Monday, March 16, 2026. Highlights of the meeting are recapped in brief below. Please note: this media release does not reflect official minutes of the meeting.

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lifesaving Award Presentation
    • Officer William Philyaw was presented with an award by Police Chief Adam Bogart and Village President Missey Moorman Schumacher for his recent efforts in saving the life of a member of the Channahon community.
  • Channahon Junior High School Shadow Day
    • Members of the Channahon Junior High School Student Council joined Village of Channahon staff and officials for the 11th Annual Job Shadow Day on Monday, March 16, 2026. As part of this process, the students drafted a resolution to recognize Job Shadow Day, which was then put forward and approved at the Board Meeting by the participating students.

VOTES

The Board voted on the following items during the formal meeting:

  • Approved: Approval of Job Description and Authority to Advertise for Positions of Executive Assistant/Deputy Clerk and Marketing & Communication Manager
    • The Village Board authorized staff to advertise for the Executive Assistant/Deputy Village Clerk position in anticipation of the upcoming retirement of the current employee after nearly 26 years of service, with the FY budget allowing for up to a three-month overlap to ensure a smooth transition. The position will be posted with an anticipated hiring range of $60,500-$84,700, consistent with the Village's current salary structure.
    • The Board also authorized staff to post and recruit for the Marketing & Communication Manager position following the upcoming vacancy effective March 19, 2026. The updated job description reflects a refocus on marketing and communications responsibilities, and the position will be advertised with an anticipated hiring range of $71,000-$99,000, depending on qualifications.
  • Approved: Final Plat of Subdivision for Whispering Oaks Unit 5
    • The Board of Trustees approved the final plat of subdivision for Whispering Oaks Unit 5 on 8.57 acres at Justin Drive and Cache Isle Circle, allowing for the development of 21 additional lots as the final phase of the subdivision. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval at its March 9, 2026 meeting by a 7-0 vote.
  • Approved: An Updated Intergovernmental Agreement with Minooka Community High School District #111
    • The Board voted to approve an amended Intergovernmental Agreement between the Channahon Police Department and Minooka Community High School District #111 to update School Resource Officer provisions and comply with school code requirements, including prohibiting officers from issuing tickets or citations on school property. The updated agreement must be in place by July 1, 2026.
  • Approved: A Resolution in Lieu of IDOT Surety Bond
    • The Village Board approved a resolution authorizing the Village to obtain required permits from the Illinois Department of Transportation for various infrastructure improvements within State right-of-way during 2026-2027. The Village agreed to comply with all permit conditions, assume liability for the work, and authorized officials to execute the necessary permits on its behalf.

BRIEFINGS

The Board was briefed on the following items during the Committee of the Whole:

  • Statistical monthly reports for February 2026 were presented to the Committee of the Whole by the following departments: Village President, Village Administrator, Administration, Community Development, Finance, Police, and Public Works.
