Press Release October 11, 2019
The Village of Channahon is pleased to welcome Amazon to our community. Amazon announced this morning, in a press release, that they recently closed a deal with Venture One Real Estate to build a new 1.1 million square foot distribution center in the Crossroads 55 Business Park. This project represents a significant investment in the community along with the creation of 500 new jobs. The Village looks forward to Amazon’s involvement as a committed community partner.
Village of Channahon staff and officials have made a continuous effort over the past 4 years to ensure responsible growth. Amazon’s new building, to be located at the northeast corner of Bradley Street (east frontage road) and Amoco Road, will require the developer to install additional public infrastructure improvements to accommodate the anticipated build out of Crossroads 55 and adjacent properties. “This is exactly why I was so adamant about installing a traffic signal at Rt. 6 and Bradley St. (east frontage road),” said Mayor Missey Moorman Schumacher. “Although IDOT traffic studies didn’t warrant a signal, we had to convince them those traffic numbers were coming. We wanted to be proactive and not play catch up.” This traffic signal is currently under construction with expected completion early 2020.
Additional thanks goes to the various area taxing bodies who joined with Village of Channahon in an intergovernmental agreement designed to result in the construction of millions of dollars in public infrastructure improvements to serve the area without cost to our residents. Amazon’s investment in Channahon will trigger these additional public infrastructure improvements, create 500 full time jobs with benefits, and further diversify our tax base in our continued effort to stabilize tax rates for our residents. No local incentives were provided to Amazon.
Construction of this state-of-the-art facility will begin immediately and is expected to be occupied by the Fall of 2020.
